From Debugging to Prevention: Smarter Linux Diagnostics with Automation
2025-06-12 , E105 (capacity 70)

As Linux distributions power everything from enterprise servers to edge devices, efficient troubleshooting and proactive issue detection become critical for system reliability. Traditional debugging methods often involve manually sifting through logs, running diagnostic commands, and analyzing system state—an approach that is time-consuming and reactive.

In this talk, we introduce Insights-Core and SOS, two open-source frameworks that automate diagnostics across key Linux components such as the kernel, networking, storage, system management, and services. We will explore how Insights-Core enables proactive rule-based analysis and how SOS provides structured, in-depth data collection for rapid troubleshooting.

Key takeaways from this session:
* How Insights-Core rules automate issue detection across Linux distributions
* How SOS captures critical system diagnostics for faster root cause analysis
* Use cases across networking, storage, systemd services, kernel, and security
* Best practices for extending Insights-Core with custom rules for proactive monitoring

This session includes a live demo showcasing how these tools help system administrators, SREs, and support engineers quickly diagnose Linux issues—without manual intervention.
