99.99% Availability with Sub-Millisecond VM Provisioning on Bare-Metal
In this talk, we will discuss a unique architectural design that we used to create Virtual Machines on bare-metal servers with minimal latency of just a few milliseconds. The VMs created are fully isolated, ensuring high security and reliability. This method has enabled us to achieve 99.99% availability for our product offerings hosted on our infrastructure. This talk will also focus on the optimal usage of open-source tools like Nomad, Firecracker, and Ignite, which are key to this architecture and have allowed us to create over 2 million ephemeral VMs in the few months of it's implementation.
A key takeaway from this session will be learning how engineering teams can independently create VMs on bare metal with minimal code and using open source tools Nomad, Fire Cracker and Ignite, reducing reliance on managed services from the cloud provider. Attendees will also discover innovative ways to achieve VM creation with latency of few milli seconds.
We'll discuss strategies for minimizing cloud costs while maintaining high availability, along with how we address the security challenges involved.
Participants will gain practical insights into how we achieved 99.99% availability, helping them understand the tangible business value this approach can bring to their own platforms.
