From Models to Systems: Designing Open AI Systems that are Trustworthy
Vincent Caldeira

As AI systems transition from standalone models to fully integrated, Agentic systems, the need for trust, transparency, and safety has never been greater. This session will explore how to design and operationalize trustworthy Open AI systems that balance autonomy with accountability. Drawing from recent research on risk alignment, model openness and Agentic AI governance.

The session will leverage an example of Agentic AI system that leverages both multi-agent orchestration and function calling to achieve dynamic, goal-driven behavior, to showcase how to implement core safety practices such as risk alignment, user alignment, and real-time intervention controls, using open source tools and frameworks to ensure that AI agents can be safely deployed in real-world environments with high variability and uncertainty. Through this, we hope participants will learn the key principles of designing AI systems that can act independently while maintaining rigorous safety standards.
