After volunteering with the FOSS United Community for more than a year, Rahul joined the FOSS United Foundation to lead the organization in May 2024. Before this, he was a Scientific Software Developer for 8+ years and has a degree in B.S. & M.S. in Physics from IIT Madras. He spent most of the past decade heavily using the Scientific Python ecosystem and has made a few contributions to projects from that ecosystem. His interest in Tech Policy (and involvement with the FOSS United Community) started when he pursued the Graduate Certificate Program in Public Policy (Tech Policy) from the Takshashila Institution with a scholarship from the FOSS United Foundation.

FOSS is a cornerstone in the success story of the Indian industry. The DPG-related initiatives prove that the Government of India too recognizes the value that FOSS provides to India and the World. But publicly talking about FOSS adoption continues to be a problem in India, let alone supporting and creating FOSS. In this talk, we will briefly look at the prevailing Tech Policy in India and how it impacts the adoption, support, and creation of FOSS.
