DESCRIPTION:Smartwatches are usually tied to proprietary mobile apps and cl
osed ecosystems. Open-source projects are changing this by allowing users
to connect wearable devices with open platforms and build their own integr
ations.\n\nThis talk introduces the open smartwatch ecosystem through proj
ects such as PineTime\, Bangle.js\, AsteroidOS\, and Amazfish. The main fo
cus will be on Amazfish\, an open-source companion application connecting
smartwatches with Linux-based systems.\n\nWe will look at the challenges o
f building a smartwatch companion app that runs across multiple platforms\
, including Ubuntu Touch\, Sailfish OS\, and desktop Linux via Flatpak. Th
e talk will cover portability challenges\, architectural decisions\, and h
ow open technologies enable a shared ecosystem across different devices an
 d operating systems.
